Alex L. and Ivah W. Coomes Scholarship
The Alex L. and Ivah Wagoner Coomes Scholarship was established in 1990 by Mrs. Jean Coomes Woods, a 1949 graduate of High Point College, in memory of her parents. Jean Woods served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and taught for 33 years in public schools, all but one of which were in Guilford County, North Carolina. Recipients of the Coomes Scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning of High Point University. First preference will be given to ambitious, career-oriented female students who are residents of North Carolina. Financial need should be considered for the award of the Coomes Scholarship, but it should not be the deciding factor. Scholarships may be renewable based on the satisfactory completion of previous year’s work.
