Anthony T. Greco Endowment Scholarship

Anthony Thomas Greco, born in 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, was the son of Italian immigrants. At sixteen, he joined the Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific in World War II. After the war, he married and settled in Northern Virginia. He started his own business, Alto Restaurant Equipment, in 1955 and went on to build over 300 restaurants in the Washington, DC area. Mr. Greco became known as the father of the Washington restaurant industry – building, financing and owning many of the capitol area’s most successful restaurants. Although he never completed high school, Mr. Greco’s lifelong thirst for knowledge, his study of history and law, and his fine mind earned him great respect. He had faith in all people and inspired many to achieve success through dedication, hard work and respect for others. It was a very proud day for him when his oldest child, Anne, graduated from High Point College, becoming the first person in his family to earn a degree. Recipients of the Greco Scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning and will have a demonstrated financial need. Recipients are required to maintain a “B” average. Scholarships may be renewable upon the successful completion of the previous year’s work.
