Bill and Bonnie Peterson Scholarship Fund

The Bill and Bonnie Peterson Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 through contributions from Mr. Peterson’s family, friends and co-workers. The scholarship was created as a memorial to Mr. Peterson in recognition of his contributions to journalism in the Home Furnishings industry. Mr. Peterson co-founded “Furniture|Today” in 1976 and was highly regarded for his integrity and understanding of the furniture industry. He retired in 1991 but retained the title of Founding Editor and continued to write a column and attend furniture events. He received many industry honors, including the Pillar of the Industry Award, the Distinguished Home Furnishings Journalism Award, and was inducted into the Furniture Writers Hall of Fame. In August 2014 with the passing of Mr. Peterson’s widow, Mrs. Bonnie Peterson, the Wilbert “Bill” Peterson Scholarship was officially renamed the Bill and Bonnie Peterson Endowed Scholarship Fund. The Peterson Scholarship is awarded to students who study in the HPU School of Art and Design and who demonstrate financial need. Students majoring in Home Furnishings, Visual Merchandising Design and Interior Design will be eligible to apply for this scholarship. Recipients will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning. Scholarships may be renewable upon successful completion of the previous year’s work.
