CMA Jacklyn "Jack" Lucas Endowed Scholarship

The CMA Jacklyn “Jack” Lucas Endowed Scholarship was established in 2008 in his memory. Jack Lucas, a farm boy from Plymouth, North Carolina, enlisted in the Marine Corps at age fourteen in 1942. After the Marine Corps discovered his true age, they allowed him to remain in the service but attempted to keep him out of combat. Jack had other plans and, on the day he turned seventeen years old, he found himself on Iwo Jima. Grievously injured during the heavy fighting that followed, PFC Lucas was noted for his heroics. On October 5, 1945, PFC Lucas received the Congressional Medal of Honor from President Truman for his actions on that day on Iwo. He is the youngest Marine ever and the youngest in the past century to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. In 1956, USMC Capt. Jack H. Lucas USA (Ret.) received a Business Administration degree from High Point College. Recipients of the Lucas Endowed Scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning.
