Cora L. and Wilson M. Stitt Endowed Scholarship

The Cora L. and Wilson M. Stitt Endowed Scholarship was formed in December 2016 by combining two previously established funds established by Dr. James Stitt in 2003 and 2005. The High Point University family lost Dr. Stitt in 2016. Born in Fayetteville, NC, he graduated from Louisburg College in 1965 and High Point College in 1967. He received his doctorate in British History from the University of South Carolina in 1976. Dr. Stitt joined the faculty of High Point College in 1969 and remained a cornerstone of the institution for the next 47 years and was recognized for his dedication to students with the Meridith Clark Slane Award for Distinguished Teach and Service. Jamie was a pillar of his community, serving as President of Asheboro Rotary and as Senior Warden of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepard. The Cora L. and Wilson M. Stitt Scholarship may be awarded based upon academic merit and financial need to a student pursuing an academic major in either History or Education. This scholarship may be awarded for an additional academic year based on outstanding academic performance. Recipients of the Cora L. and Wilson M. Stitt Scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning.
