The Reverend Ernest U. and Irene M. Stephens Endowed Scholarship

The Ernest U. and Irene M. Stephens Scholarship was established in 2008 as a result of a gift from the Stephens’ estate. Reverend and Mrs. Stephens were North Carolina residents who grew up in Surry County. Later in life, Reverend Stephens received a calling to the ministry and enrolled at High Point College. He was a member of the Class of 1958. Early in his ministry, he was appointed to the Todd Charge in Ashe County and served eight churches at one time. Reverend Stephens died at the age of 99 in 2008. Irene preceded him in 2003. Recipients of the Stephens Scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning and may be made available to enrolling freshmen or students at any level during their academic careers at High Point University. Preference will be given to students who are pursuing careers in Christian service. Scholarships may be renewable based upon successful completion of the previous year’s work.
