Faculty Development Fund (Alumni Chair of Higher Learning)

Established in 1975 as the Alumni Chair of Higher Learning endowed fund. The source of gifts was from all unrestricted gifts to the HPC Annual Alumni Fund made during a five-year period ending May 31, 1979. Income from the principle amount of the fund will be used to supplement the salaries of teaching faculty who will be designated. The primary purpose of the Alumni Chair of High Learning fund (since renamed Faculty Development Fund) is to assist the University in its recruiting and maintain of superior faculty members as it continues its program of improving academic quality. The following criteria shall apply: 1. There will be one or two Alumni Chairs of Higher Learning depending on the need as it may exist at High Point University. 2. These chairs may be granted in any department of the University, except that no department may have more than one. 3. The faculty members so appointed will be designated by contract in the High Point University Catalogue as the holder of the Alumni Chair of Higher Learning. 4. The amounts of the supplement will be determined by the President of the University, taking into consideration the needs of the University, and base salary of individuals, and the competitive market in the respecting teaching fields. 5. In no case shall the total amount of supplement exceed the income produced by this investment. 6. Any unused income for a given year shall accrue for future use, or it may be directed to the overall instructional budget by the Board of Trustees of High Point University. 7. Persons of all faculty ranks are eligible for appointment. 8. The appointment shall not be made to any one department for more than two consecutive years. 9. When the appointment is made, the President of the University shall send a written notice of the appointment to the Director of Alumni Engagement. 10. Selection will be made in compliance with Title VI, Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Title IX of Educational Amendments of 1972.
