First Generation Endowed Scholarship
The First Generation Endowed Scholarship Fund at High Point University was established in July 2017 through gifts from Mrs. Mary S. Burbach of Fort Myers, Florida, and her daughter and son-in-law Robert and Patricia Dorfman of Palm Beach Garden, Florida. The Dorfmans are parents of Abbie Dorfman, a member of the High Point University Class of 2018. First Generation Scholarships are administered through the Office of Admissions based on criteria developed in conjunction with the Say Yes Scholarships. Applications for First Generation Scholarships is handled through the Admissions process. Recipients are selected by the Admissions Scholarship Committee on the basis of financial need, diversity, are the first in their family to complete a college education, reside in the city limits of High Point, and graduated from a high school in one of High Point’s Guilford County school system. The purpose of the First Generation Endowed Scholarship fund is to generate income (deemed available to award for financial aid) to offset money used from operating accounts to cover the costs of awarding a First Generation Scholarship. The Business Office of High Point University handles the administration of funding tuition expenses for First Generation Scholars and accessing money from the endowed fund to offset these expenses.
