J. Harriss Covington Scholarship Fund

The J. Harriss Covington Endowed Scholarship was established in 1995 through gifts from Mr. and Mrs. J. Harriss Covington, Harriss and Covington Hosiery Mills, and members of the Covington family. Mr. Covington served as a member of the Board of Trustees of High Point University and was recognized for his exemplary business career at Harriss and Covington Hosiery Mills. The Covingtons have been prominent in charitable and civic projects throughout the city of High Point and have years of dedicated service to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. The J. Harriss Covington Endowed Scholarship is designed to recognize high academic performance, leadership ability and service to others. The Covington Scholar will be entitled to receive up to two-thirds of the cost for room, board, tuition, books or fees associated with attending High Point University. A Covington Scholar may be named at any point during the student’s four years at the University based upon the availability of funds and the distinguishing attributes of a particular student. Recipients must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and must demonstrate leadership and service traits which characterize the highest achievement becoming of a Covington Scholar. Although there are no geographic guidelines, preference will be given to students from the High Point area as defined by Guilford County and counties contiguous to Guilford. Scholarships are automatically renewable upon the successful completion of the previous year’s work.
