Jerry and Catherine (Kitty) Steele Scholarship

The Jerry and Kitty Steele Endowed Scholarship was established in 1994 through gifts from Mr. and Mrs. Steele and fans and supporters of their programs. Coach Steele served thirty-one seasons as head coach of the men’s basketball team, and upon his retirement he ranked seventh among active coaches with 1,095 games coached overall. He was also twelfth in number of wins with 609 recorded during his tenure. Mrs. Steele coached tennis and field hockey at High Point for twenty years winning twelve consecutive championships and being named Conference and District Coach of the Year twelve times before retiring in 1996. Recipients of the Steele Scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning to students majoring in physical education with preference being given to students from North Carolina. Priority must also be given to students who are participating in inter-collegiate programs at High Point University. This scholarship may be renewable based on the successful completion of the previous year’s work.
