Jerry W. and Joan S. Murdock Endowed Scholarship
The Jerry W. and Joan S. Murdock Endowed Scholarship was established in January 2018 by Mr. and Mrs. Murdock who reside in South Carolina. Jerry Murdock came from a large family. His father was a farmer and mill worker in Statesville, North Carolina. After his mother passed, leaving several small children, he and four siblings were no longer able to stay at home and went to live at the Methodist Children’s Home in Winston-Salem. Mr. Murdock, a member of the TEKE Fraternity, graduated from High Point College in 1962 with a degree in Business Administration. He served in the Navy after college and married. After working with Johnson and Johnson, International Paper and Henley Paper Company, Mr. Murdock started IPS Packaging in 1976. Today, IPS Packaging is a multi-million-dollar company with 170 employees with the corporate office located in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Murdock demonstrate significant interest in High Point University and wish to establish a scholarship to support future High Point University students. Recipients of the scholarship will be selected on the basis of financial need as determined by the High Point University Office of Financial Planning. This scholarship may be renewed upon the successful completion of the previous year’s work.
