Kenneth G. and Bessie Rutland Holt Scholarship

The Holt Scholarship was established in 1997 by Kenneth and Bessie Lee Holt of Asheville, North Carolina. Mr. Holt graduated from High Point College in 1930 and attended Duke Divinity School. He served as a United Methodist minister in the Western North Carolina conference. His wife, Bessie Lee Rutland, was a native of Georgia and was employed by American Telephone and Telegraph until her marriage to Mr. Holt in 1937. Mr. Holt concluded his employment career with trucking company Mason and Dixon Lines. He retired in 1968. The Holts have been engaged in community, civic, and church-related activities in Asheville and Buncombe County for the past thirty-five years. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning based upon qualified candidates who have been accepted as students but who cannot afford to attend without financial aid. The scholarship will be awarded to students who are residents of the State of North Carolina or Georgia. Scholarships will be automatically renewable upon successful completion of the previous year’s work.
