Lavona B. Black Endowed Scholarship
The Lavona B. Black Endowed Scholarship was established in 1997 through gifts from Mrs. Black. Founder of Black’s Furniture in High Point, Mrs. Black was recognized as a prominent furniture retailer, business leader, and supporter of High Point University activities. She was a lifelong member of Calvary United Church of Christ in Thomasville. Mrs. Black passed away in 2004. Recipients of the scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning with priority given to North Carolina students preparing for careers in business or furniture. Scholarships may be renewable upon successful completion of the previous year’s work.
