Leslie and Hildreth Gabriel Jordan Scholarship

The Hildreth Gabriel Jordan Scholarship was established in August 1990 by Mrs. Jordan, a resident of Concord, NC, and lifelong Home Economics and English teacher in the Concord city school system. Mrs. Jordan loved students and demonstrated that sentiment by creating two endowed scholarships in the School of Education at High Point University. She was a graduating member of the High Point College Class of 1938. Mrs. Jordan died in 2006 and, through her estate, left a scholarship gift in excess of $1 million to underwrite the scholarship in perpetuity. Preference will be given to students who have a demonstrated need and are majoring in teacher education. Applicants must maintain a 3.0 grade point average in order to renew the scholarship annually. In honor of Mrs. Jordan, applicants must submit a 500-700 word essay. Scholarship recipients must successfully be admitted to the Teacher Education Program in order to be eligible to renew the scholarship in the junior year. Unused scholarship money due to ineligibility will be used at the discretion of the School of Education faculty in awarding qualified candidates who have been admitted to the Teacher Education Program. In honor of Mrs. Jordan, preference will be given to students majoring in Secondary English.
