Ronald G. Wanek Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Ronald G. Wanek Endowed Scholarship was established in May 2015 by licensees and employees of Ashley Furniture, as well as friends and family, to honor Mr. Wanek, the founder of Ashley Furniture Industries, Inc. Mr. Wanek, who is world-renowned in business and philanthropy, started his furniture company and career in 1970 with a small group of thirty-five employees. Today, Ashley Furniture Industries, Inc., headquartered in Wisconsin, has become the largest furniture manufacturer and retailer in the world with one of the largest manufacturing and distribution facilities located in Advance, North Carolina. Mr. Wanek’s philanthropic and business acumen are generously shared with High Point University’s students as Mr. Wanek serves as a speaker and mentor to those studying business and furniture. The R. G. Wanek Center at High Point University, a center-point for student activity, was named for Mr. Wanek and his wife, Joyce. In May 2015, Mr. Wanek was bestowed an honorary doctorate of business at the High Point University Commencement exercises. Recipients of the Ronald G. Wanek Endowed Scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning and will be awarded annually to a student demonstrating financial need and majoring in entrepreneurship, marketing or sales.
