Steel Magnolias Endowed Scholarship
At the suggestion of Jane Shelton Shaffer ‘56, a scholarship was established in 2001 by the Steel Magnolias, a High Point University alumnae group of friends from the 1950’s that established their group circa 1990. The fund has grown from memorials and honorariums received from individuals within the group as well as from other friends. Recipients of the Steel Magnolias Scholarship are selected by the Office of Financial Planning of High Point University. Recipients should be in good academic standing and exhibit a need for financial assistance. This scholarship will be renewable automatically for the recipient upon successful completion of the previous year’s work. The Steel Magnolias may make recommendations for the scholarship based on their desire that relatives of the members be given first priority to the funding if they meet the original criteria of the scholarship with good academic standing and demonstrated need. It is requested that each recipient write a thank you note annually to the Director of Alumni Relations who will serve as a representative of the Steel Magnolias. Copies of the thank you notes are to be presented to all Steel Magnolia members along with a letter noting the status of the scholarship.
