T. Paul Starnes, Jr. Scholarship
Feeling gratitude to God and the many persons who were instrumental in his obtaining a degree from High Point College, the T. Paul Starnes, Jr. Endowed Scholarship was established in 2004 by The Reverend T. Paul Starnes, Jr. of Waynesville, North Carolina. Mr. Starnes is a native of Union and Cabarrus counties and received degrees from High Point College, Scaritt College in Nashville, TN and Emery University in Atlanta, where he received the Master of Divinity. Mr. Starnes served as a pastor in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church from 1961 – 2002, retiring in 2002 while pastor of First United Methodist Church of Hickory, NC. He was privileged to serve as an officer and leader in various United Methodist and community organizations over the course of his ministry. He and his wife Judith Andrews Starnes, who shares in the establishment of this scholarship, are the parents of two daughters. Recipients of the Starnes Scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning. Priority will be given to students preparing for careers in Christian service in the United Methodist Church. Financial need and promise of effective service shall be among the considerations of this scholarship.
