Tom Davis Scholarship Endowed Fund

The Tom Davis Scholarship Endowed Fund was established at High Point University in December 2015 with an initial gift made by the Tom Davis Fund of Winston-Salem, NC. Thomas H. Davis, founder and retired director of Piedmont Aviation, Inc. was the last of the early legendary commercial aviation pioneers when he died in 1999 at the age of 81. In June 1943, Mr. Davis was elected president, treasurer and a director of Piedmont Aviation, Inc. In 1947, Piedmont Airlines was formed and inaugurated its first commercial flight on February 20, 1948. The company merged with USAir in 1989. Throughout his career, Mr. Davis was active in many local, state and national organizations and received numerous honors and awards. He was a leader in many civic programs and several educational scholarships have been established in his honor. The Tom Davis Fund of Winston-Salem, NC, will advertise the existence of this scholarship fund to former employees of Piedmont Airlines. Student who self-report as descendants of Piedmont Airlines employees will be given first priority in the selection process. Recipients of the Tom Davis Scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning by recommendation from the Dean of the Earl N. Phillips School of Business. First preference will be given to students pursuing a major or minor in entrepreneurship. Next preference will be students majoring or minoring in business administration. Recipients must have a grade point average of at least 3.0. This scholarship may be renewable based upon good academic standing.
