Virgil Yow Scholarship

Mr. Virgil Yow was a much-loved coach who compiled a superb record in 35 years of coaching basketball. In 22 seasons at High Point College, Yow coached in 499 games, winning 308. He was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1959 for his work at High Point College. Mr. Yow enrolled at High Point College in 1926 and was a member of the third graduating class in 1930. The Yow Scholarship, in honor of Coach Yow’s favorite sport, is awarded with preference to a student athlete basketball player from either the men’s or women’s team. However, the University has discretion in the selection of recipients to students participating in one of the varsity sports programs, both men’s and women’s, at High Point University. The scholarship may be renewable upon successful completion of the previous year’s work. Recipients are selected by the Office of Financial Planning.
