William Eugene and Alice Cox Carnell Endowed Scholarship

The William Eugene and Alice Cox Carnell Endowed Scholarship was established in 2003 by Dr. Lisa Carnell in memory of her parents. Dr. Carnell is a member of the High Point University faculty of the David R. Hayworth College of Arts and Sciences Department of Mathematics. Mr. Carnell was a self-made man and small business owner who was guided by a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Mrs. Carnell had a long career at VF (formerly Blue Bell) when it was unusual for women to be in managerial positions. She valued independence and education and passed on a love of learning to her two daughters. This scholarship is intended to an upperclassman with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, majoring in any program within the Mathematics Department at the time of the award. Recipients of the William Eugene and Alice Cox Carnell Endowed Scholarship will be awarded by the Office of Financial Planning as recommended by the chair of the Mathematics Department in conjunction with Dr. Carnell, as long as she remains living. This merit scholarship may be awarded without regard to financial need. It is preferred that the scholarship be awarded to the same student until graduation, as long as the criteria of the scholarship are met.
