William S. Richman Memorial Scholarship
The William S. Richman Memorial Scholarship was established in 1997 through gifts from his beloved wife and friend, Marilyn “Toddy” Richman, and his devoted children. Mr. Richman was president of Stratford Company and of the upholstered furniture division of Mohasco Corporation. He was a founder and co-chairman of the Upholstered Furniture Action Council, an active member of the National Association of Furniture Manufacturers and of the Home Furnishings Council. Mr. Richman possessed rare leadership, intelligence, wit, humor, ethics, creativity, innovation and a clear understanding of retailers’ needs, merchandising, sales and promotions of products. Recipients of the Richman Scholarship will be selected by the Office of Financial Planning with recommendations from the Earl N. Phillips School of Business. Preference will be given to rising juniors majoring in home furnishings marketing, interior design, or management; with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher; possessing leadership skills, creativeness, and resourcefulness; and exceptional communication skills. The scholarship is merit-based and may be renewable upon successful completion of the previous year’s work.
